Microsoft Edge can be completely removed from Windows 11:

To find the Edge version number, launch a new browser window in Microsoft Edge and paste the following into the address bar: edge:/settings/help.

Copy and paste the address below: Program Files (x86) in C: MicrosoftEdgeApplication{Version.Number} file explorer installer

The following command should be pasted into the folder’s new Command Prompt window after being opened as an admin. set up.exe —force-uninstall —system-level —verbose-logging

Microsoft Edge is no longer available in Windows 11.

Please take note that ONLY the Microsoft Edge browser will be removed using this method.

When “Microsoft Edge WebView2” is removed from your computer, Windows 11 will become unstable and may even become unrecoverable. The Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is used by Windows 11 for features like Chat and Widgets.

During the holiday season, Microsoft installed its Edge browser on all new devices running Windows 11. Microsoft Edge can be uninstalled from Windows 11 as was previously discussed, but it’s preferable to just leave the browser accessible on your desktop.

On Windows, you’re better off switching to a different default browser, but it might not be sufficient for you. You may feel as though Microsoft is pressuring you to use their browser, and you may want to uninstall all processes connected to “Microsoft Edge” from your Windows 11 computer.

Remove Microsoft Edge
Here’s what to do if all you still want to do is remove Microsoft Edge and move on with your life.

To find the Edge version number, open a new browser window in Microsoft Edge and paste edge:/settings/help into the address bar.

How to uninstall microsoft edge windows 11

Copy and paste the address below: Program Files (x86) in C: MicrosoftEdgeApplication{Version.Number} file explorer installer

open in terminal 768x3661 1

The following command should be pasted into the folder’s new Command Prompt window after being opened as an admin:setup.exe –uninstall –system-level –verbose-logging –force-uninstall.

The Microsoft Edge browser is now removed from Windows 11.

The Edge browser will only be removed using these instructions; if you notice other processes running in the background, such as “Microsoft Edge WebView2,” don’t lose your cool; the browser didn’t automatically reinstall itself on your computer.

Why it is not advisable to remove Microsoft Edge

Without another browser like Chrome installed on your computer, you might not be able to access and browse the internet after uninstalling Microsoft Edge. So before you entirely uninstall the Edge browser, be sure to download a new browser like FireFox, Brave, or Vivaldi.

WebView2 provides an additional justification for keeping Microsoft Edge installed. Third-party app developers use the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime to show web information inside of Windows apps. Because Windows 11 needs WebView2 to run underlying apps and background activities on your computer, you cannot uninstall Microsoft Edge WebView2.

Before using WebView2, developers would need to include a separate HTML engine that would take up a considerable amount of additional app space and development time. Since Windows 11 uses WebView2 for so many things, Microsoft decided to make it impossible to uninstall Microsoft Edge on Windows 11.
